Holding Value
Wine Down Wednesday Issue 49
Hey Love,
I’ve always admired people who bet on themselves.
Not because they always win. They don’t. Not because every business succeeds or every dream unfolds the way they imagined. I’ve admired them because they make a decision long before there’s evidence to support it. They choose themselves before the world does. There’s something incredibly dope about that kind of courage, and if I’m honest, I’ve always wondered what it must feel like to trust yourself that deeply.
For a long time, I convinced myself they had something I didn’t. Maybe they were naturally confident. Maybe they were wired differently. Maybe they were just bigger risk-takers than I could ever be. It was easier to believe that than to ask myself a harder question.
What if they weren’t different at all?
What if the only real difference was that they stopped waiting?
I’ve realized how often I’ve moved the finish line on myself. First, I needed more experience. Then I needed more confidence. Then more money. Then more time. Somewhere along the way, I started treating readiness like a destination instead of something that grows every time you say yes to yourself. Every milestone I reached was followed by another reason to wait. Looking back, I don’t know that I was preparing. I think I was protecting myself from the possibility of finding out I wasn’t enough.
The truth is, life has been making its case for me this whole time.
Every difficult season taught me something I couldn’t have learned any other way. Every disappointment sharpened my judgment. Every mistake made me a little wiser. Every time I had to start over, I proved to myself that I could. None of those moments felt like wins while I was living them, but they were all quietly building something I couldn’t see yet.
As the woman I’ve become, I eventually have to stop seeing myself through the eyes of the version of me who was still trying to prove herself.
She didn’t know what I know now.
She hadn’t survived what I’ve survived.
She hadn’t learned what I’ve learned.
She hadn’t become who I’ve become.
Maybe that’s why I’ve started looking at people who bet on themselves a little differently. I used to think they were betting on talent, or timing, or some extraordinary level of confidence. Now I think they were betting on something much simpler.
They trusted that no matter what happened, they would figure it out.
That changes everything.
Because if the investment isn’t in a perfect outcome, then it isn’t really a gamble at all. It’s trust. Trust that the woman you’ve spent years becoming knows more than the woman who’s still afraid. Trust that experience has been preparing you in ways confidence never could. Trust that even if the plan changes, you’ll adapt like you’ve adapted before.
Maybe that’s why betting on yourself is one of the greatest investments you’ll ever make.
Not because you’re guaranteed to win.
But because, after everything life has already carried you through, you’ve finally become someone worth trusting.
The Decant
Readiness rarely arrives all at once.
Sometimes it reveals itself when you stop waiting for permission and start trusting what life has already taught you.
You may be far more prepared for your next chapter than you’ve been giving yourself credit for.
The Intent: Self-Trust
The Atmosphere: Steady Confidence
Second Glass
By the second glass, I always find myself wondering what life would’ve looked like if I’d trusted myself just a little sooner. Not because I regret where I am, but because I wonder how many opportunities quietly passed by while I was busy convincing myself I wasn’t ready. Then again, maybe every delayed dream still taught me something. Maybe all those years weren’t wasted after all. Maybe they were simply introducing me to the woman I’d eventually have the courage to believe in.
VIBE NOTE
Cranes in the Sky by Solange
There are songs that entertain us, and then there are songs that quietly sit beside us while we sort ourselves out. Cranes in the Sky has always felt like the latter. It’s a reminder of how easy it is to believe the next accomplishment, the next opportunity, or the next version of ourselves will finally quiet the questions we’ve been carrying. But growth has a funny way of revealing that peace isn’t something we stumble upon after we’ve done enough. Sometimes it arrives the moment we stop searching everywhere else and begin trusting the woman we’ve been becoming all along.
SCENT NOTE
Some scents don’t ask for your attention. They simply change the way a room feels. Olous Aromatique Room Spray by Aesop does exactly that. Its fresh citrus, green botanicals, and soft florals create an atmosphere that feels both grounding and expansive, like opening the windows after making an important decision. There’s a quiet confidence to it that lingers in the air, reminding us that clarity doesn’t always arrive with a grand announcement. Sometimes it settles in gently, once we’ve finally stopped questioning ourselves long enough to recognize the woman we’ve become.
SIP NOTES
THE WINE
White Burgundy (Chardonnay)
The Moment
Some bottles don’t ask to be the center of attention. They simply belong at the table. This week, I’m pouring a White Burgundy because it reminds me that the most enduring kind of confidence is often the quietest. It doesn’t compete. It doesn’t perform. It simply shows up, comfortable in its own character.
The Experience
With bright citrus, crisp orchard fruit, and subtle notes of toasted almond and minerality, White Burgundy has a beautiful way of balancing freshness with depth. Every sip feels thoughtful rather than hurried, revealing layers that reward patience instead of demanding attention. It’s the kind of wine that reminds you some of life’s finest things don’t need to announce themselves to be appreciated.
What It Leaves
A clean, lingering finish that stays with you long after the glass is empty. Much like self-trust, its presence isn’t loud. It’s steady, refined, and quietly reassuring—the kind of confidence that only comes with time.
